Shen's parents weren't actually shown in the movie except as nicely animated Chinese shadow play figures in the intro of Kung Fu Panda 2. But I drew them anyway, if stylized a bit. And older, to fit the situation. Personally think there's something weird and refreshing about seeing a villain with his mommy and daddy. Makes him humane, in a way.

I still don't entirely believe Shen died in that movie but it would be kinda nice if he met his parents in afterlife. So they got lots of things to talk over.

Or maybe they don't talk, they just get all family mooshy for all eternity. I don't know.

Actually I don't even know if I believe in afterlife at all.

This is vent art anyway. Boohoo boohoo. :'D So distracted with crap lately. Aren't we all.

Edit: ~MudstarMord-Sith made this nice music video [link] about Shen and his parents. Before it was made, she respectfully asked me for permission to use the sketches giving credits and all, and I said yes. Check it out! :D It's quite lovely.

When Shen Thinks About His Parents, It Feels Like He Wants To Hug A Doll Or Something That Was A Comforting Object That Might Comfort Him.

Definitely makes him more... Soft. Someone you could bring yourself to feel bad for. It's a good thing honestly. Adds more depth to a character if you ask me.

I really like this, while I too would like to think Shen might've survived...I also would like it if he got some kind of chance like this in the afterlife. I feel he deserved at least that.

It's interesting to think about how different things could very well have been if his parents had still been alive and if he'd been given a chance to talk with them or something. Or so I feel, hah. Good job on the sketches, very good job.

Aw. Well it depends.. how do you portrait her? For me, and in these drawings here, she's a loving mother torn between family and royal duties. (Eventually the royal duties, sending their son away, killed the parents.)

If that's what you were going for, then sure go ahead! Don't forget to give credits, a link to my dA page. :) Also show me the video, I'm curious to see!
